Some newspapers show the Moon’s phase daily & you can view online at, e.g. Moon Phases  (where it also tells you the next & last Full & New Moons).

Our new inquiry topic beginning in week three (as chosen by Kereru Class Kids) is.....
Space and the Solar System!
The theme is an exciting one for kids focusing on space and space travel. The content covers our solar system; rockets launching into space; astronauts and the International Space Station (ISS); Earth’s moon as it orbits around us and the effect it has on Earth; the power of the sun and it’s importance and all sorts of wonderful, fun learning.

In the last week of Term One we are focussing on ANZAC Day.
In 1916, one year after the Gallipoli landing, 25 April was officially declared as ANZAC Day. In the beginning, ANZAC Day honoured the ANZACs. However, after World War II, ANZAC Day came to be about honouring all veterans, servicemen and women, alive or dead.

Our mini topic for the first two short weeks of the year is Waitangi Day and The Treaty of Waitangi.
February 6th is Waitangi Day in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
It celebrates the date of the first signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. Waitangi is in The Bay of Islands in Te Ika A Maui.
Here is a link for more information; Treaty of Waitangi

Our Mini Topic to start Term 4 is Cyber Safety.
This is carrying on from our Keeping Ourselves Safe sessions with Constable Garland but with a focus on keeping safe online.
This topic is designed to help you understand that online activities can have associated risks and to think about how you might protect yourself while online.
After completing the activities in your NIE booklets and other learning tasks, you will be more able to identify risky online behaviours, know some strategies to keep yourself safe online and know how to search topics in more efficient ways.

Our trip to the museum to learn more about plants is coming up on Thursday 7 August. It will be a great 'hands-on' experience!

80% of our trees, ferns and flowering plants are endemic (found only in New Zealand).
We will have a trip to The Museum and The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary to learn a lot more about the wonderful flora and fauna we have in New Zealand.
Memory Bones
When most people think of fossils they think of dinosaur skeletons and large bones, but there are many different types of fossils to be found.
Do you know what a fossil really is? Do you know how they form? And do you know what they tell us about the past? Confused? You won't be after all the learning and fun activities we will be doing in our topic this term!

'Our Place'

Our inquiry learning topic this term is 'Our Place'
We will be learning about the Nelson/Tasman area, the place we call home.
This Thursday we will be kicking off our inquiry by taking a tour (on the double decker bus) of some historical sites and visiting monuments and landmarks in our area.
We have tasks to complete along the way and will be taking notes and photos to help us when we continue our learning back in the classroom.
Here are some links to some of the places and people we will be learning about:
