As discussed, the year 5-8 speech competition is coming up in September. In class we will be doing some work around how to write and present a speech. Your homework for the next two weeks will be to work on writing and presenting your speech.

Click on the following site and watch the short video about Lucius, a teenage boy, in ancient Rome.
Teenage Life in Ancient Rome
Write ten interesting facts about what life was like for Lucius. You may use bullet points for your facts but you must have use full sentences with correct punctuation.

You have been working on mm-cm-m in class. We have discussed the importance of getting the measurement correct when building something so here is an interactive game for you to play to practice what you have learnt so far.

🎃The theme of our school gala is 'Harvest' so this week your task is to create an acrostic poem using the word 'Harvest', 'Pumpkin' or 'Autumn'.

Term 1 Week 8
At school you and your classmates have been gathering information about your pulse-rates. You have displayed the data using a stem-and-leaf graph. 
Remember, a stem-and-leaf graph is a bar graph made by arranging numerical data in a display. The first part of the number is the stem and the last part is the leaf. 

  1. Neatly, draw a stem and leaf plot in your homework book and place the BPM pulse-rates of all of the members of your family on the chart.
  2. Choose one person from your graph and work out how many times their heart beats in a week. In your homework book show your calculations and working out. You can use a calculator as you did in class.

With Cyclone Gita about to hit us it's a good time to think about what you would do in an emergency. Do you know where to go? Where is your family's meeting place? Do you have enough emergency supplies? 
Your challenge this week is to design a survival kit if you were stuck at home after a natural disaster and also work together as a family to plan what you will do in an emergency. 
Use the double sided sheet provided to complete your homework.
